Arctic:
This incredibly unique and beautiful area of the world is characterised by long cold winters where temperatures can reach as low as -50°c, and cool summers where temperatures can reach 10°c on a good day. The cool climate allows for the polar region and the most northern part of the world to be dominated by stunning icy backdrops and landscape, making it one of the most rare and fascinating places to discover and explore. The Arctic consists of the Arctic Ocean and parts of Canada, Russia, Denmark, Norway, the United States, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland.
THE PEOPLE
Around 4 million people currently permanently live in the Arctic. Cultures in the region and the Arctic indigenous people have adapted to its cold and extreme conditions. The improvement of access and communications has contributed to the inhabitants’ unique ability to survive in the harsh but beautiful environment skilfully and peacefully. In comparison, the indigenous population of Antarctica is 0. The hunter on the ice belongs to a people called the Inuit, a name which in their language means simply 'people'. There are many other indigenous groups with different names but related to the Inuit who live along the coasts of Greenland and Alaska as well as Siberia.
